Food insecurity: Don calls for adequate storage, processing facilities

By Aderemi Bamgbose

Prof. Foluso Adetuyi of the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) has charged the Federal Government to establish adequate modern storage and processing facilities for post harvest of agricultural produce.

Adetuyi, a professor of Food and Post Harvest Biochemistry and the university’s Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), gave the charge in a lecture at the institution’s eighth Inaugural Lecture in Okitipupa, Ondo State, on Thursday.

He said that the measure would help to preserve agricultural produce, especially grains, fruits and vegetables, and help fight food insecurity currently facing the country.

According to him, the lack of these facilities is responsible for wastage that also causes food insecurity.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the lecture was, “Managing Our Future: “Dexterity of a Biochemist in Food Security and Health”.

The don said: “Food security is when having at all times, foods and food products adequately enough to meet increasing consumption demand to mitigate fluctuation in output and prices.

“However, food production is not the problem of Nigeria, but wastage of foods, especially fruits and vegetables, because of the lack of storage and processing facilities.”

Adetuyi argued that one-third of globally produced foods for human consumption, approximately 1.3 billion tonnes, are lost or wasted every year.

This, he said, happen through the food supply chain, which includes the series of related activities used to produce, process, distribute and consume food.

He said that food losses and wastage were usually recorded during cultivation, harvesting, post harvest, distribution, retail and consumption.

“About 30 per cent to 40 per cent of food produced in Nigeria, representing USD 750 billion yearly, is wasted.

“Also, according to national estimates, Nigeria generates 32 million tonnes of wastage, including all stages of value chain per year.

“Nigeria has food production surpluses, but the inability to manage our surpluses has been our greatest challenge of food insecurity.

“Nigerian government should shift from more food production and find a way of checking food wastage by establishing enough modern storage and processing facilities for post harvest produce,” Adetuyi said.

He said that there were different storage facilities to store tubers, grains, legumes and processing facilities for different fruits and vegetables which, if processed, would be good for consumption.

“These will solve our food insecurity,” Adetuyi said.

In a remark, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, urged governments at all levels to pay attention to post harvest food storage and processing to salvage the country from food insecurity.

Ologunorisa said that there was need to engage academicians in more research, adding that such would bring out the best in them to raise the institution’s standard to meet international best practices.

“The guest lecturer has delivered his lecture and said it all; the country’s problem is not food production, but how to guide against food wastage,” he said.(NAN)

Ogun NMA calls for implementation of universal CONMESS salary structure

By Joy Akinsanya

The Ogun State Chapter of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), has called on the state government to improve their salary structure by implementing a universal Consolidated Salary Structure (CONMESS) across all healthcare sector.

Dr, Luqman Ogunjimi, the NMA Chairman, made the call in a press briefing heralding the 2024 Physicians Week/Scientific Conference on Tuesday in Abeokuta.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the conference theme is: “Ensuring Universal Applicability in Renumeration: A Panacea to Talent Retention in the health Industry”

Dr Ogunjimi noted that fair compensation was very crucial for motivating doctors and ensuring delivery of qualitative healthcare services.

He added that fair compensation would also discourage brain drain that has hit the healthcare sector.

According to him, We have noticed a troubling trend in recent years, our most qualified and experienced medical professionals who are the backbone of our healthcare system are leaving Nigeria in quest for better opportunities elsewhere.

The medical expert, urged the government to improve the welfare of healthcare workers, saying that it would curb the menace of healthcare doctors leaving the country to fetch for greener pasture elsewhere.

He, however, commended the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for demonstrating a strong commitment in ensuring and implementing fair remuneration for doctors working with the state government.

”We commend the state government in rectifying our salary scales and await implementation by the end of the month.

“We however, urged the state to ensure arrears are settled aligning our benefits with our counterparts in the federal institution and other states who have received for over 16 months” he said.

The medical expert, disclosed that a free medical outreach would be carried out at Osile Oke-Ona Egba’s palace in Abeokuta, as part of activities to mark the physicians week.

He added that the outreach would be tied in with the state governments project of 10 million initiative.

“This outreach is aimed at providing accessible healthcare services and the importance of health metrics particularly for those with chronic conditions,” he said.

The Guest Speaker at the Conference, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, a Consultant and Public Health Physician, spoke on the theme: “Ensuring Universal Applicability in Renumeration: A Panacea to Talent Retention in the Health Industry”

Ipaye, emphasised that there was need for fair and just compensation to be provided to employees regardless of Job specification or location.

Ipaye, a former Commissioner for Health in the state also outlined some challenges of universal applicability renumeration for health workers which includes: funding, economic disparities, administrative complexity, marketing forces among others.

He also mapped out strategies in ensuring universal applicability of the doctor’s pay which includes: policy reforms, increasing funding for the healthcare sectors, motivating physicians by given them incentives based on performance, improving working conditions of health workers, transparency and accountability.

He added that, in addressing the issue of brain drain, the universal applicability renumeration needed to be ensured, saying that if doctors are compensently paid, their chances of leaving the country would be limited.

He however, called on the governments to invest at least minimum of 70 per cent of the national resources on primary healthcare services in order to meet the health need of people living in rural areas.

He also urged the government to work on other conditions of service in the healthcare sector by providing good working environment, equipment, training and security.

NAN reports that the week long programme features: scientific conference on Tuesday; free medical outreach on Wednesday, symposium on Thursday, Jumaat service/sporting activities on Friday while young doctors forum holds on Saturday. (NAN)

Bisi Kolawole has emerged the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the June 18 governorship election in Ekiti state.

Kolawole, a former chairman of the PDP in Ekiti, edged out Segun Oni, an ex-governor, and Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, a former deputy governor of the state.

The primary election took place in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday.

Kolawole had resigned his position as Ekiti PDP chairman to contest the governorship election and he was the preferred aspirant of Fayose, former governor of the state.

Kolawole was a former lawmaker representing Efon constituency in the state House of Assembly, as he also served as commissioner of environment between 2015 and 2018.

While endorsing Kolawole for the governorship election, Fayose had described him as a bridge-builder who would usher in a better future for Ekiti and the PDP.

“The man you have come to honour, Bisi Kolawole, is our collective project. I made him my preferred candidate in the overall interest of our party, but this does not foreclose due process of nomination in PDP,” Fayose said.

“PDP is what we are supporting; it is what we are marketing. And all we want is a winner. We have started consultations and I know that victory is sure for us.”

Biodun Olujimi, Senator representing Ekiti South, had earlier in the day pulled out of the race, accusing the party of disenfranchising her.

FG’s planned fuel subsidy removal, election strategy says NBA.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) says the All Progressives Congress (APC) ed Federal Government suspended the planned petrol subsidy removal because of the forthcoming 2023 elections.

The President of NBA, Olumide Akpata, made this known on Monday while speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ programme

It was earlier reported that a former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.); a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana; and the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU), strongly warned the government against removing the subsidy, saying it would worsen poverty in the country.

But the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, on Monday, said that the government had suspended the planned removal of subsidy on petrol which was expected to kick off by June this year.

Reacting to the suspension of the planned removal of subsidy on petroleum products, the NBA president said, “I will have love to think that the decision to suspend, I will have wanted to believe that it is because the government cares so much about the people and it is a government that is listening to the cries of the people because indeed as the Minister of Finance mentioned because it will be really tough if subsidy removal is implemented at this time with all of the other circumstances.

“However, something tells me that this has more to do with what is in the offing; an election is coming up and the strategies – they (government) must probably have sat down and think about it and told themselves that it will be suicidal at this point in time to take out subsidy going into an election which is around the corner.” Akpata said.

APC Crisis: Twist as Tinubu, Fayemi agree to work together.

As the 2023 politicking gathers momentum, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, have resolved to work together to address the lingering crisis rocking the party.

The two top leaders of the party, who are nursing presidential ambition, made the resolution during a meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday, it was gathered.

While Tinubu had declared for the presidential race, sources said Fayemi would do the same, barring last minutes change of calculation.

The Abuja meeting came to many stakeholders of the party as a surprise, observers said. It was reported that there were suggestion that the relationship between the duo had turned sour since 2018 when Fayemi was re-elected as governor.

At the meeting on Wednesday, it was gathered that the two APC leaders discussed the issue of the forthcoming Ekiti governorship election slated for June 18, this year.

The party primary has been fixed for January 27.

A source said, “While the two politicians have presidential ambition, they both face serious challenges outside the South West region.

“Therefore, the best thing for them to do is to cement their relationship at home, speak with one voice, and concretise their relationships in the other five geopolitical zones. Once they achieve this, any other thing can follow as we approach the 2023 presidential election.

“There are plans in some quarters outside the South West to undermine them and therefore, their coming together is a good omen.”

Another source said, “The Ekiti governorship election and how to keep the party united in the state was discussed during their meeting in Abuja. You know seven persons have indicated interest for the race in our party,” he said.

At the national level, it was gathered that Tinubu and Fayemi reviewed the delay in the conduct of the national convention of the party. The convention, where new members of the National Working Committee (NWC) would emerge, was fixed for February without a date.

Our correspondents report that since the ousting of the Adams Oshiomhole-led NWC in June 2020, the ruling party has been under the firm grip of three governors; Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), who chairs the caretaker committee; Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) and Mohammad Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa). The Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami is said to be part of the clique of the three governors.

Party sources said the delay in the conduct of the convention was part of the plots of the three governors to maintain their hold on the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

A source said the governors have gotten the backing of a section of the presidency to “Stop Tinubu” from picking the party’s presidential ticket. It was further gathered that Fayemi was not being considered by the clique.

There have been reports that some APC governors are mounting pressure on former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to join the APC.

“The plan was to pick one of the governors or a minister as the running mate of the former president,” he said.

It was gathered that the resolution by Tinubu and Fayemi was to deflate the plot of the three governors to edge them out of the race and by extension the South West geopolitical zone.

Meanwhile, controversy has been trailing the purported power shift agreement between Tinubu and Buhari before the 2015 general elections. It was further gathered that Tinubu is banking on the support of Kano State Governor, Abdullah Umar Ganduje, the Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum and others to penetrate the North.

The declaration by Tinubu on Monday has signalled the commencement of the politicking for the 2023 presidential race. Across the country, the declaration has been dominating the political discourse, thus gingering other aspirants. Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi made his intention known 24 hours after Tinubu’s confirmation of interest.

They have a long standing relationship – Ekiti gov’s CPS

Tinubu’s media aide, Tunde Rahman did not respond to a text test message sent to him but Fayemi’s Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, said the two leaders have a long standing relationship.

“I don’t know why the media is interested in the meeting; don’t forget that Asiwaju and the governor have a long-standing relationship. Forget what you read in the newspapers, they meet regularly. What happened on Wednesday was one of such meetings.

They met in Bauchi during the wedding Fatiha of the daughter of Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu and they said okay, ‘Let us meet when we get to Abuja’ and they met. That is why till tomorrow, you will not see the pictures of the meeting; there was nobody else at the meeting. There was no camera; only two of them.

“Ignore whatever you read in the papers, honestly speaking, these people, they don’t do their thing for the camera. I am aware of the meeting, but I was not there. It is not an unusual thing for them to meet, they meet regularly, a relationship that has spanned 25 – 30 years don’t wish it away on the altar of politics,” he said.

Asked when Fayemi will declare for the presidency, the spokesman said, “He has not told me that he is nursing any presidential ambition. He only said he has works to do, and he is concentrating on it.”

Former APC governor stole N1 trillion says Ihedioha

Gov. Emeka Ihedioha of Imo State has accused his predecessor, Mr Rochas Okorocha of stealing N1trillion while in power.
According to a statement on Friday issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Steve Osuji, available records show that in eight years, former Gov. Rocha Okorocha mismanaged about One Trillion Naira belonging to Imo State.
“We are taking our time in unveiling the numerous atrocities of the last administration and certainly, he must answer for all the evil he did against the people of Imo State,” he said.
Taking time to dismiss all the allegations Okorocha levelled at Ihedioha recently, Osuji said no amount of lies can discourage the PDP governor who displaced the ruling party in the last general election.
“The truth is that Okorocha wrecked Imo State. All he is doing is to attempt to divert the attention of Imo people. Unfortunately, Imo people are smarter than that. EFCC started probing the former governor’s eight-year rule months ago–though he insists it s the handiwork of his party chairman Adams Oshiomhole.

As the saying goes, “The proof of the pudding is in the eating” — and the University of Fortune is ready to serve excellence.

The familiarization visits in Abuja were not just ceremonial; they symbolized the institution’s determination to build bridges, not walls, and to work hand-in-hand with regulators to ensure quality.

The proverb “when the roots are deep, there is no reason to fear the wind” aptly captures the university’s strong foundation and bold vision for the future.

With its motto, “Redefining Education, Shaping Global Minds, Securing the Future”, the University of Fortune is positioning itself as a beacon of hope for Nigerian families.

Indeed, the future belongs to those who prepare for it today. For many, that preparation begins with obtaining the 2026 Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) form and securing admission into this new generation of excellence.

As Sen. Ibrahim concluded during the visit, “Education is the key that unlocks the golden door to freedom. At the University of Fortune, we are handing that key to every child who dares to dream.”

Court grants Ondo commissioner bail over alleged assault

An Akure Magistrate Court has granted the Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Seun Osamaye, bail over alleged assault.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Temitope Alphonso, had accused the commissioner of verbal abuse, threats, and alleged assault during official engagement.

Osamaye on Wednesday appeared before the magistrate court after previously failing to honour court summons.

Upon her appearance, the court set aside a warrant of arrest earlier issued against the commissioner.

In a ruling, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni held that all applications before the court had become spent following the voluntary appearance of the defendant.

Osamaye, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N500,000 on self-recognisance.

The court directed the commissioner to submit a written undertaking to ensure her availability in court whenever the case is scheduled for trial.

The court adjourned the case until February 20, for further proceedings.

Police launch manhunt as gunmen abduct pregnant woman in Ondo

A pregnant woman was abducted on Tuesday night by suspected gunmen in Ayedele community, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The victim, identified as Mary Jesulayomi, was reportedly seized around 7:40 pm near the Federal Secretariat on Igbatoro Road, on the outskirts of Akure.

Reports indicate that the attackers also took a 90-year-old man, Pa Ogunleye Mese, and his wife, but later released the couple a short distance from the scene.

In a video interview obtained by our correspondent, Pa Mese said the gunmen fired shots into the air to frighten residents before forcing the three victims towards a nearby bush.

He added that he was beaten during the ordeal but escaped while being marched away, while his wife collapsed and was left behind.

Mrs Mese described the incident as terrifying, saying the assailants abandoned her and continued with the pregnant woman.

Confirming the abduction, Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said tactical teams had been dispatched to the area to rescue the victim.

The incident comes less than a week after gunmen kidnapped seven people in Eleyewo community, also in Akure North, where two victims were later rescued by the police.

How suspects of foiled coup allegedly plan to overthrow Tinubu

An interim investigation report into the alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu’s government has revealed that a clandestine network of military officers coordinated by an Army Colonel (name withheld) had planned the takeover, with funding, recruitment, and operational planning traced directly to him.

The report indicated that the Army officer, whose repeated failures in promotion reportedly fuelled his disaffection, mobilised like-minded officers across the Army, Navy, and Air Force, assigning them to survey critical national installations, including the Presidential Villa, major barracks, and international airports.

In October 2025, the DHQ announced the arrest of 16 officers over acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations.

Shortly after, Sahara Reporters reported that the officers — ranging from the rank of Captain to Brigadier General — were arrested by the Defence Intelligence Agency for holding secret meetings to topple the government, and linked the alleged plot to the cancellation of the October 1 Independence Day parade.

At the time, the then Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau (rtd.), dismissed the report as an attempt to create tension and distrust, stating that the matter was a purely internal disciplinary issue.

He said an investigative panel had been constituted and that its findings would be made public.

Providing an update on Monday, the new Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, stated that a comprehensive investigation had now been concluded in accordance with established military procedures, and the report had been forwarded to the appropriate superior authority.

In the interim investigation report, the indicted Colonel was described as the alleged coordinator of the plot.

Investigators said the planned coup went beyond “casual dissent” and had entered the early stages of operational planning, including the covert surveillance of critical national assets such as the Presidential Villa, Armed Forces Complex, Niger Barracks, Abuja, and Lagos international airports.

According to the report, the plot was uncovered following intelligence on “disgruntled elements within the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the civil populace,” leading to arrests, interrogations, and link analysis that exposed a structured conspiracy aimed at a coup d’état.

The report states that the Army officer, who reportedly failed promotion exams twice, “harnessed these grievances to recruit like-minded officers,” openly lamenting his stagnation and expressing the need to “change government.”

According to the report, searches conducted on his vehicle reportedly uncovered charms and anti-government materials, while a raid on his residence in Lokogoma, Apo, yielded “very sensitive documents,” including assigned roles to principal actors and notes identifying how “key national dignitaries” were to be handled during the operation.

“Multiple testimonies implicate Col (name withheld) as the coordinator of the conspiracy. He has been identified so far as the source of funding, recruitment, and motivation, openly lamenting his stagnation in promotion and expressing the need to ‘change government.’

“Several officers involved in the plot describe him as the figure who provided financial inducements and justification.

“Meanwhile, search of his vehicle revealed several charms and write-ups such as the NUPENG strike action and other anti-government write-ups.

“Similarly, a search on his residence at Lokogoma, Apo, revealed very sensitive documents which included allocation of responsibilities to some of the principal actors.

“Also, key national dignitaries were earmarked to be handled by respective principal actors,” the report stated.

The coup plotters had reportedly infiltrated the Presidential Villa and compromised the staff of construction giants, Julius Berger, to get some security information of the premises.

The Defence Headquarters on Monday said personnel indicted after investigations into alleged misconduct by some military officers, which uncovered claims of a plot to overthrow the government, would be arraigned before an appropriate military judicial panel.

According to Punch Newspaper, the 16 officers reported to be in custody were Brig Gen M. A. Sadiq, Col M. A. Maaji, Lt Col S. Bappah, Lt Col A.A. Hayatu, Lt Col P. Dangnap, Lt Col M. Almakura, Maj A. J. Ibrahim, Maj M. M. Jiddah, Maj M.A. Usman, Maj D. Yusuf, Capt I. Bello, Capt A.A. Yusuf, Lt S.S. Felix, Lt Cdr D.B. Abdullahi, Sqn Ldr S.B. Adamu, and Maj I. Dauda.

Officers being awaited, according to the report, are Maj J.M. Ganaks and Capt G. Binuga

Most of the suspects are of northern extraction, with the exception of Capt Yusuf, who hails from Osun State.

The foiled coup was allegedly set for October 25, 2025, and was planned to be fatal, with the President, Vice President Kashim Shettima, ministers, service chiefs, and other notable government officials marked for elimination.

The country’s security establishment, however, uncovered what investigators described as a coordinated and well-funded plot by serving military officers to undermine constituted authority and potentially seize power, with intelligence linking the conspiracy to a clandestine network spanning the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

According to investigators, financial inducements ranging from N2 million to N5 million m were distributed to some principal actors, while encrypted communication platforms were used to coordinate logistics.

Investigators further traced financial inducements allegedly disbursed by the Colonel to some officers for “logistics and possible mobilisation,” with intelligence pointing to the involvement of at least one major financier now under investigation.

A detailed financial trail, according to the report, was being analysed with the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit.

One of the suspects, Lt Col Bappah, emerged as a critical witness, the report stated.

The report noted that Bappah was “cooperating fully,” having admitted his role and provided details on funding flows, recruitment methods, and communication channels.

His testimony, investigators said, had strengthened the case and offered rare insight into the group’s modus operandi.

Encrypted messaging platforms, including WhatsApp and Zangi, were allegedly used to coordinate activities, while discreet vehicle repairs and fund movements suggested what investigators described as “early-stage logistical preparations.”

The interim assessment warned that the threat was elevated by the cross-service nature of the network, the involvement of senior officers up to the rank of Brigadier-General, and the identification of strategic installations for seizure — hallmarks, the report says, of deliberate coup-style planning.

While full investigations continued and more suspects were being tracked, security sources said the findings justified swift preventive action to dismantle the network, secure sensitive locations, and cut off funding lines sustaining the alleged plot.

“The threat posed was clear and immediate,” the report concluded, adding that failure to act could have had “grave implications for national stability.”

Security agencies are also reportedly examining alleged political linkages surrounding the uncovered coup plot within the Armed Forces, with sources confirming that the name of a former minister surfaced in the course of ongoing intelligence reviews.

However, no formal charge had been filed against the former minister, and no arrest warrant had been issued, as he had been outside the country for a while.

Security sources disclosed that the probe had expanded beyond serving military officers to include civilian contacts, financiers, and political associates who may have had direct or indirect interactions with key suspects.

“The investigation is not limited to uniforms alone,” one source said.

“We are looking at communication trails, financial flows, and political interfaces. That does not mean guilt; it means due diligence,” he added.

2027 Guber: Yayi set to meet Ogun professionals

Indigenes of Ogun West Senatorial district, under the aegis of Ogun West Professionals, will on Sunday have a chat with Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) to scrutinise his plan for the 2027 general election.

Though Adeola, popularly called Yayi, is yet to make a public declaration of his 2027 ambition, there continue to be groups and individuals rallying support for Adeola to run for governorship in the next election.

A statement by the chairman of the steering committee of Ogun West Professionals, Dr Yemisi Bamgbose, on Tuesday, said the chat was deemed necessary as Adeola is widely regarded as a frontline aspirant for the Ogun governorship on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

At the event scheduled to be held in Ilaro, Bamgbose said Adeola would speak on his 2027 agenda before media representatives, monarchs, community leaders and other guests.

“The professionals said let’s have a media chat with Senator Adeola to hear from him directly and to let him tell the whole world what he has on the table to ensure that Ogun West can win the gubernatorial election that is coming in 2027,” Bamgbose said.

He stressed that the Ogun West Professionals were out to correct the lack of unity which has hampered the zone’s desire to win the governorship seat.

Bamgbose added, “The Ogun West Senatorial District has not been fortunate enough to occupy the number one position in Ogun State in terms of gubernatorial seat since the state was created in 1976, most especially under this democratic dispensation. And this was largely alluded to the fact that the people from the zone, most especially the politicians, have not been speaking with one voice.

“We, the professionals, are indigenes of various towns and villages across the zone; that is, from the Awori, the Yewa, the Anago, the Ketu, etc. That is, in all the Ogun West’s five local governments: Ado-Odo Ota, Imeko Afon, Ipokia, Yewa North and Yewa South.

“The professionals said let’s have a media chat with Senator Adeola to hear from him directly and to let him tell the whole world what he has on the table to ensure that Ogun West can win the gubernatorial election that is coming in 2027.”

He disclosed that Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, will be the guest speaker at the event.

Bamgbose said the professionals were pushing the Ogun West agenda for 2027, as “since the creation of Ogun State in 1976, the governorship seat has been exchanged between only two senatorial districts, namely, Ogun East and Ogun Central, to the detriment of Ogun West. But, Ogun West Senatorial District is a major economic hub covering 37 per cent of the state’s landmass.”

Bamgbose, however, said the group was also rallying people, groups, clubs and artisans from other senatorial districts in the state to support the Ogun West agenda.

“The event is aimed at creating unity and coherence among the people of Ogun West Senatorial District on the clamour for a winning governorship candidate from the zone for the 2027 election.

“We are looking for everything that we can do to harmonise opinions, to bring people together so that a formidable team and a formidable voice can emanate from Ogun West Senatorial District so that we can get the buy in of Ogun Central Senatorial District and Ogun East Senatorial District in terms of support so that come 2027, we’ll be able to get the nod for it.

So, I think the body is equally looking at who is likely and who is more favourable within the ranks of the politicians that are clamouring to contest.

“So, we are working for unity and coherence among aspirants from the zone. Certainly, we cannot get 100 per cent support for any particular candidate because, as long as we have different political parties, there will be different interests and there could be different candidates.

“But this time around, I think part of what the Ogun West professionals are clamouring for is to make sure that aspirants from the zone in key political parties ensure that they are made the gubernatorial flagbearers of their parties so that the people of Ogun West Senatorial District can eventually determine whom they want.”
